My Life at Cornell

Dear all,

I am now studying at Cornell in Ithaca, NY. Ithaca is a very small and quiet city. Nothing interesting except the university, mountains, lake, forest and water falls. Living without a car, I have to spend 40 minutes each day on walking to the campus. It is long walking, acrossing mountain, lake and fall, therefore making me quite tried. However, I enjoy the scenery. Also I meet a lot of Thai students here. They all are so kind to me.

I have gone to classes for 3 days. There are 9 Ph.D students from various countries. They are very genious. Some of them come from Leading Universities in the world like Yale University, New York University, London School of economics etc. I was so excited. However, I still have the big problems with foods and especially communication. I dislike american food and usually end up with hotdog and cereal. In the classes, I can not understand clearly what the teacher said and I can not chat with my classmates during the break. After finishing the classes, I usually go directly to home and live alone in my room. In addition, I have to live far from my gf who is now studying at University of Kansas. I feel quite lonely. Nevertheless, I hope that I will be able to resolve the problems soon in order to be stronger and then survive.

Sincerely,
ITTHIPONG MAHATHANASETH
